Grieving Sirens
2023
Artist Statement: This four-canvas installation emerged from a desire to understand and work through my own climate despair, which took root during my years working as an environmental attorney. Massive preservation efforts felt like bailing water from a sinking ship, and I found very few resources to contextualize personal and collective psychological responses to environmental collapse. This work investigates environmental grief and the potential for integration through the lens of embodiment. Connecting to longstanding mythical tradition, female forms personify the Earth experiencing her own tragedy and moving through the seasons of bereavement. Early expressions of grief encountered acceptance, fortitude, and nature’s ability to adapt: Rapid evolution is underway.
